Mobb and Jay-Z End Feud, Focus on Sam Scarfo Debut

Monday, May 1, 2006
By: Kenny Rodriguez

Mobb DeepAlthough the rivalry between Mobb Deep and Jay-Z has lost steam over the years, according to Queensbridge rapper Prodigy, the beef is officially over.

“We got friends in common,” Prodigy told MTV News, perhaps hinting at Jay and 50 Cent’s collaborative work on Freeway’s upcoming album, Free At Last. After all, Mobb Deep is now signed to 50’s G-Unit record label, and feuding with industry allies would inevitably be bad for business.

In addition to putting their differences aside, Mobb Deep is also preparing to do some work with their former rival -- the Queensbridge duo will executively produce Def Jam rookie Sam Scarfo's debut album.

“We’re going to help him with a little bit as far as the beats and all that,” Prodigy said. “Me and Jay-Z had a sit-down over it. We ironed out our little differences. We reached out to each other like, ‘Let’s have a sit-down, have a meeting.’ It’s all business, it’s all good. Basically [the meeting] was [put together] through our manager Storm. Storm also manages Scarfo.”

Besides sharing the same manager, P says he and Havoc are excited to work alongside Scarfo because the New Jersey native has a unique style and “brings something new to the table.”

Scarfo, a past Fight Klub battle winner, was the first solo artist to sign under Def Jam when Jay-Z became the company’s president

It's about time. Now, let's see a song together.

With all the murders and the shootings and the arrest of our brethren going on in the black communities and in the hip hop industry.... I'm actually happy to see this beef squashed. Takes a grown man to overlook there beef and move forward. Much props.
Posted by Sair
But on the other side of the fence..... More wickedness more vulgarity and more profanity, sex drugs and murder will be spewed out the mouth of "sam scarfo" and mobb deep" and this will only get our young teens gang banging again this summer. So.... Its 1 step forward.... And 2 steps back. You wanna impress me.... Executive produce an album made by a non-violent rapper. And message to jay z: "being behind the madness makes you just as guilty" all the madness must cease.... Every bit of it. Peace.
Posted by Sair
Hhhhmmmm. I mean ended a beef, that really wasn't one if you ask me. But that's a good sign...hiphop needs more positivity

Everybody at some point will disagree....it says alot about every man by how he handles it.....i thought it was a beef between jay and the mobb...but i also felt like they handled it on a level like stay off my swing....and i'll stay off your monkey bars....lol.

Bout time dat beef over
Posted by dboygunit
Sair...spoken like a true conscious soldier man! i always have had a degree of respect for jay-z but this should not negate the fact that even though we are behind the scenes, we support the message being espoused by artist that purport being directly involved in drug sales, murder and other mayhem. I must admit my guilt to liking a lot of the music that they have made in the past, that does not make it right either. Yes sometimes i use the n word but you would never see me anywhere arguing justification of it's usage!! i think once to come to a level of development the way jay-z has, responsibility should mean something. Holla...
Posted by Teflonblack
I meant to say "...i think that once one comes to a level of development the jay-z has, responsibility should mean something." i stand to be corrected! lol!
Posted by Teflonblack
Hes doing that sair....i thought he was doing the thing with the roots coming this summer...
Posted by Kalliope4eva
And so-on and so-on who give a sh*t man mobb were my bois back when but tha sighing in g-unit got me looking sideways i tired of all the f**kin politics man

Kalliope4eva.... Signing the roots is a start of course. And i dug that. But i would like jay to continue to strive for that perfection at his label and with his character. If he's really sincere about it. Becuse right after he signed "the roots".... He signed "rick ross" and sam scarfo" both of whom sold a tons of drugs.... Murdered quite alot of people and F*cked quite alot of whores. So like i said__ 1 step forward.... And 2 steps back. Good can not co-exist with evil. Jay has to completely get away from that which is destroying our communities. One rapper said he sold grugs for pablo escobar and noreaga... Lol. These dudes is real funny man. It's all fictional of course.... But you really got cats running to miami and atl trying to be like these guys. "bmf entertainment" you saw the paper on there drug bust. More drama, more jails and more funerals. Just stop it all.... Choose life.
Posted by Sair
Lol...your right.....but are you tossing stones? who is squeaky clean?
Posted by Kalliope4eva
Yeah... Guess you're right kalli . Peace yo... Who is?
Posted by Sair
I am pleased to see that we recognize the need to see a change. Sair, you took the words out my mouth with rick ross statement. While no one maybe squeaky clean we all can make strides towards excellence and show the world that minorities are civil people with ethics and great morals. As it stands we are depicted (thru our music, too) as people ready and willing to make a fast buck regardless of how. I am pleased to see that the beef is dead though. God bless you all!

I agree with u sair, but then you don't make sense, there is no good without evil/bad, there is no joy without pain and there can never be any positive without negative. Mind you, i understand that the negative more than outways the positive in rap music but, you must understand that when everyone leans one way, someone wants to show that other side so when you have all the positive music, someone will show the truth and negative aspects to 1)be different from the rest and 2) to much of the same gets boring (ie: gangsta rap) just think if the entire rap game was mos def's, roots talib's and common's etc., who would make music and speak for the 50 cent's, mike jones's, eminem's and b.g.'s etc.? someone's gonna make music that applies to what they live and see every day. You aren't wrong for your opinion ( it's quite right in many ways), but you must look at reality first, then dreams. And as far as jay-z goes, he's earned his stripes 100 times over holding down the roc and the entire rap game for nearly ten years on his own and he walks both lines of music, positive and negative, he went from sellin' dope to whores and fiends to sellin' hope to kings and queens!!! and furthermore, if he signed only positive rappers, he'd be doing def jam a disservice. Def jam is a company made to bring in millions and that wouldn't happn without having the best of both worlds. Holla!!!

I am definitely delighted myself to see cat's are coming together, showing a degree of maturity but at the same rate it is also like cat's can't let go of the fact that a man does as a man does and all of the pontificating only displays men being boys. How many times are we going to keep co-signing these clowns who are years removed from the game (jigga & mobb deep) cat's who are not that deep in the game (rick ross) and some white executive bank rolling the whole thing? i just spoke to one of the cats that were in the "son's of malcolm x" crew out of philly and southern new jersey. These guys were pretty heavily involved in the drug trade back in the day. Don't you know that a lot of them guys have been incarcerated for over ten years? do you know the regret them guys have? these cat's don't want to rap about that garbage, they wish they could get their lives back! these clowns not directly involved in the game need to stop and jigga and mobb deep need to stop since they are years removed and the decline of civilization is taking place right in front of us!!
Posted by Teflonblack
Yo im happy that the beef is over sourtof but it seems jay iz goin soft on us and if any one wants t be down wit 50 cent i cant support that i rmember mob deep was holdin there own and so was m.o.p. Now it seems that takin the pop route and how could jay truce wit them and 50 when he just fukin stopped beefin wit nas who dont like 50 cent but we gotta stop callin him 50 cent any way he stole his name from a real gangsta and copyed his life ifthe real 50 was still here curtis jackson would be pushin up some fukin daisys
Posted by revolutinarynigga
By the way i still got much respek for jay but that n*gga's goin pop and sh*t
Posted by revolutinarynigga
With all due respect to kingjames, for the last 10 years we have been bombarded with "gangsta rap" and anything else that may have possibly been indirectly related to that sub-genre! i mean i could name a bunch of so called socially irresponsible gangsta rappers starting back from 92 and make a case that there aren't enough mos def's, common's, and talib's. Ironically if you think about it, these are the same cat's mentioned everytime this particular argument comes up! for every positive or conscious rapper named 5 socially wreckless cat's can be named! even more so today. How balanced is that? to add insult to injury, the types of marketing schemes used to promote these psuedo gangsta's have trickled down to other genre's of majority african american occupied music. Look at how long it takes a purely talented cat to bubble? rap is out of control and it has been for years!
Posted by Teflonblack
That is my point revolutionary. The "real 50" did not have time to rap, he was a stick up kid. Most cat's who are involved in the game don't involve themselves in rap and bull$h!t. Dudes who are directly involved in the drug trade for the most part done deal directly with entertainment like that! take my word for it. Holla...
Posted by Teflonblack
Good and evil always coexist. It's called balance. Most of them rappers lying they a$$ off bout what they do anyway. Sad that kids listen and believe and think it's a game.
Posted by 454ChevyRidin
Good needs evil to be balanced? nope as long as their is their is a lack of balnce. One will always out way the other. View the world today and history. Nature has balance everything co-existing and with and because of each other. The echo system is balance. The human body has to be "balanced" w/the right vit.&minerals and even chemically or you will get sick. Evil in the midst of good is called disorder. God existed in and of himself and never needed evil to exist. We were made in his image so we do not need "evil" to be balnced but we have been tricked into thinking it is okay, cool or required to have "balance" so we except/tolerate it. We are all still growing and developing but our rate of growth and direction is determind by our expectations of ourselves individually and collectively. Much respect to you all! god bless you!

Just give mobb deep some money, and they will end any beef
Posted by Boss100
That was'nt even a beef, that sh*t was as one sided as the byrd and klitsko fight, jigga blew them n*ggas away, they didnt even land a punch, mobb deep aint been sh*t since then, i used to like them n*ggas back in the shook one's days, now they just plan suck, and for you tip riders who disagree, when was the lat time that you bought a mobb deep ablum? now when jay z and nas ended thier beef (which was a real beef i might add) aolt of you clowns were critisising new found unity, but ya'll except the jay z and mobb deep beef being over with, but answer this, if your in a fight, and you get knocked out with the frist punch that your opponet throws, do you honestly think that you put up a good fight?
Posted by Eric young Infinite
I agree e young infinite. The sh*t was'nt no battle i like mobb deep, but im tired of these ho ass n*ggas talking this and that. Just do music and shut the fu.ck up !! fight for us !!

Could'nt have said it better myself.

I for one am not buying mobb deep's album. The blasphemus verse from prodigy on "pearly gates" put a bad stench in my mouth. It's gonna take years for me to like them again. Message to prodigy: since you disrespected the lord publicly.... I wanna see you "repent" publicly. Then i will support you again. 1!
Posted by Sair
That's what's good
Posted by ogl16
Teflon, i agree whole heartedly.
Posted by DrFrankensence
Why do ppl take shyt so literal? music iz music, stop tryna blame tha artist 4 tha shyt they may have saw or talk about. Itz up 2 tha person 2 recognize that itz jus music. I kno everyone knows about cause n effect....if tha "real 50 cent" was this n that things r tha way they 4 a reason. Ya'll krazi wit it, prodigy verse on "pearly gates" iz jus words. Actually a lot of ya'll would b thinkin that same way if god didn't choose 2 let u in those gates. Say wat u will i'm statin my opinion. Peace
Posted by Di44eRent
I think that both mobb deep and jay-z have made a good step to end their beef.they will make an excellent teem with 50 cent on their side.
Posted by rushaine

F**k mobb deep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !! posted by: jayblooz so check this out, tupac first addressed them when he was in prison by sending some of his friends to a concert to confront mobb deep. Posted by JayBlooz
L, he did an interview with vibe where he claimed that thug life was dead and that he was giving it up. Mobb deep felt as if they were tough enough to represent it, but when they encountered tupac's mates yelling thug life, they didn't pay any attention to them. According to tupac they were very scared and did everything they could to avoid conflict. When tupac was bailed out, he started to take shots at them publicly, in popular songs such as "hit em up" and in interviews with big radio stations. Tupac called them little kids and said that they were not on his level, yet they had the courage to retaliate on their song "drop a gem on em". They were the only ones who dissed him in public, although the album, on which the song was officially released, came out after tupac's premature death. Mobb deep are still attacking tupac on songs like "the (thug) life is mine" after his death. Also nas is involved in these songs and they got close with him after tupac's death especially. There is still a beef between tupac's protegés and mobb deep going on, especially because of the song "the life is mine". Their fake, and if pac could come back i'd help him gun them suckas down. Real talk. Posted by: jayblooz. Look me up n****. I believe that mobb deep is the world's greatest rap group. They rap in pure new york, queensbridge style, and paint a more vivid picture of the realities of the ghetto than anyone else. As somebody stated earlier, the mobb has yet to sell out, unlike their queens companions in the firm. While many of their songs deal with violence, they also speak out against senseless crime: "crime pay, but for how long / till you reach your downfall" ("animal instinct"). When 2pac dissed mobb deep they handled it well, lacing their hell on earth album with 2pac disses. While all 2pac said was that mobb deep should "back the f*ck up" ("hit em up") and that one of them (prodigy) has "sickle-cell or something", mobb deep's disses were much more creative: "rikers island flashbacks in the house you got scuffed in it / you would think that gettin your head shot's enough with it" ("drop a gem on em"), calling him bishop ("in the long run"), etc. Prodigy is definitely one of the best mcs in the game. In the bulworth title track i believe he outperforms his overrated counterparts krs-one and method man (here come the flames!). Meanwhile, havoc is a good producer and rapper, and i think he sounds a lot like kurupt of d.p.g. Fame. On a personal level, prodigy, the one who once rapped about "drinking away the pain", has now given up smoking (of all types) and drinking due to his sickle-cell anemia and to be an example. He says, "i want to be an example not only for my son tchaka, but so everybody can follow my lead." mob
