County Shuts Down Michigan Club Where Proof was Killed
Thursday, May 11, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
The Wayne County, Michigan prosecutor's office recently revealed that the club where Shady Records emcee Proof (born Deshaun Holton) was killed will shut down for a year. The CCC club also must pay fines for operating after legal hours.
Proof, Eminem’s best friend and Hip Hop collaborator, was fatally wounded April 11, two and a half hours after the CCC club was supposed to close. Police say that Proof fired the shot that eventually killed Army veteran Keith Bender before he was shot by Bender’s cousin Mario Etheridge, a bouncer at the club. Proof was laid to rest the day after Bender died at St. John Hospital and Medical Center.
Interscope label mates Eminem, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, and Obie Trice were among almost two thousand who attended the funeral at Fellowship Chapel in Detroit. During the service a teary eyed Eminem commented: "without Proof there would be no Eminem, no Slim Shady, no D-12." Proof is survived by his wife and five children.
