DJ Premier Produces Latest Christina Aguilera LP

Hip-hop producer DJ Premier is helping pop singer Christina Aguilera pay tribute to soul, jazz, and blues music on her upcoming album, Back To Basics.

Primo – who has produced hits for scores of rappers including Jay-Z, Nas, and the Notorious B.I.G. – teamed up with Aguilera to reinvent the sounds of the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s. According to reports, he has handled nearly half of the album’s production.

"The thing that I try to do with each record, I don't necessarily go to the main people that are the No. 1 chart-toppers in music," Aguilera said earlier this year.

"I really like to go left field, think a little bit out of the box and go with someone, maybe a little bit more obscure, that I really respect. Not to say that Premier is that, but just to say that I'm not going to go to the obvious person, say, the Neptunes, Pharrell or Lil Jon. I really like to go someplace different that people haven't approached."

The new album, set for release on Aug. 15, is the follow-up to her 2002 album, Stripped, which has sold nearly 4 million copies in the US.

Even though i dont really listen to her music, the fact that primo is going to produce it and try to recreate the 1920s-1940s sound....i would like to check it out. This will bring a whole lot of attention to premiere in the mainstream.

I think it'll be decent. Im my opinion, aguilera is the second most "soulful" white female singer in the game (after teena marie). There are white "soul" females that put it down pretty well (esthero, joss stone, lisa stansfield) but aguilera does her thing and premier will make it work. I really think premiere could produce a track consisting of bathroom noises and it would go gold. He'll do his thing. The only thing i'm wary of is this whole 20's, 30's, 40's era thing. I'm hoping that they don't throw-back to that style completely. If they borrow from that and update, that's cool. But i figure we left the 20's, 30's and 40's in the past for a reason. Don't go back to it completely. (just my thought.)

I never knew esthero was white......anyways, i'm most def gonna peep that cause christina aguilera actually has some talent.....and premo does know how to bring the samples to create something soulful.....but i'm not sure if he can do r&b beats like that....i know he did 1 for macy gray and 1 for d'angelo, but idunno about half an lp. Well, i gotta peep it myself then

Preme does not need to go mainstream. Just another case of a white artist trying to captivate and capitalize black dollars. Can't be us, so they try to be like us. What is so sad is that we help them.

Premo is hotness, the "throwback" comment is bullsh!t and this ain't no "sneak diss!" premo is known as the one cat who has probably given biggie, jay-z and nas the hottest tracks all three of them have ever spit on. Jeru's "come clean" alone has got to be one of the illest tracks of all time in regards to production and gangstarr albums have never lacked continuity. Last but not least in regards to "sampling" premo is so nice that he chops up them up so nice that he rarely has to even compensate anyone because he makes the tracks his own!! holla...

I guess im just missing the impact he "still" has on new york music....it aint the case where its the ripple effect...i guess cats up there are "still" checking for him to give them a hit. I love most of his old shyt, but if up north cats are going to the past to amp up intrest in their career.....im laughing at em.
