Raekwon Signs with Aftermath Entertainment

Tuesday, May 30, 2006
By: Michael Ivey

RaekwonAccording to wutangcorp.com (official site of Wu Tang Clan) Raekwon (AKA The Chef) has officially linked with Dr. Dre’s Interscope imprint Aftermath Entertainment. The site confirms that paper work was completed last week.

Both Dr. Dre and Flipmode/Aftermath emcee Busta Rhymes are reportedly working closely on ‘Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II,’ the follow up to "The Chef’s" critically acclaimed 1995 duet with Wu-Tang brethren Ghostface. Rhymes and RZA will reportedly serve as executive producers. The project, which has no release date at press time, will be a co-production between either Aftermath and Wu-Tang Music Group or Wu-Tang productions.

In other Aftermath news, DJ Whoo Kid recently released Lloyd Banks’ ‘Mo' Money in the Bank Pt. 4 - Gangrene Season is Now,’ hyped by G-Unit as the young emcee’s best mixtape to date. Eminem is also returning to the mixtape circuit via G-Unit’s resident DJ. ‘The Re-Up’ is coming soon and features songs and "freestyles" by Em, Obie Trice, D12 and 50 Cent.

I don’t know what to make of this. Rae’s last joint went wood, so i’m not sure if signing with aftermath will boost his career/name, although i’m sure it won’t hurt. I’m also hearing different news about cuban link ii. Some say ghost will appear on a few tracks, and others say he wont appear on the project at all. To me, the chemistry of ghost and rae is what made the first cuban link, as well as the other wu cameos splashed over rza tracks. In my opinion, without ghost and rza, this really wont be a link ii. I also wonder if rae has entered into the “who gives a damn” period of his career as far as the fans are concerned. As much as heads love ghost, his recent release has all but lost its buzz, probably because he‘s not developing enough new fans. I can’t imagine that rae will develop more interest through name alone with a new project, regardless of a “part two” label.

Goddamn aftermath/interscope>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>def jam

Without rza? problems where the hell have you been, rza is all over this project, he is producing the majority of it and he is looking over the artistic and executive matters as well
Posted by Sun Tzu
And also ghost's recent release has lost steam because def jam is not promoting it at all really!! where's his next single? they did a poor job promoting it
Posted by Sun Tzu
If it's hot it's hot i don't care where it's from. If dr. Dre can't help you ,you van't be helped i don't think these guy's can be helped. Because they don't know that their style is broken because they ain't trying to fix nothing

Kinda crazy how err'body has words for what 50 and the unit do...but they dont have a problem following in their footsteps. Which tells me, they dont dislike 50, they just jelly that they aint in his position. Period. Even with that....i hope ray goes tripple plat. Make a purchase ppl.

Yo first, what the hell is up with people so damn worried about what coast this and what coast that. Dre has a long history of working with people from other regions. Also nobody knows who approached who for this deal. Dre and busta might have solicited rae or the other way around. Also, yeah his last two albums were garbage. Check the productions, they weren't rza or the wu-elements produced. He went outside. As for ghost, hell no these labels are not gonna push him or any other artist that approaches his music as art. The labels want catchy shyt that is just a carbon copy of whats hot right now. They don't want classics. Also the wu for the most part has stuck to their core fans. Which is why to this day they still do sell-out tours. Ghost album is one of the best albums i have heard the last 4 years. Hip-hop fans are letting the radio decide what albums are good and not. Thats a bunch of crap cause we all know the radio stations are hooked on that payola. Dj premier told ya'll, hip-hop is not on the radio. I don't know what to make of the rae/aftermath deal. I hope it works okay. I'm gonna buy it. But i want that classic rae/wu not some damn fake hip-hop club bangers. I'm sorry to tell you big, but ain't nothing broke about their style. If you know anything about hip-hop then you know you can't go by sells. They know where their bread and butter lies at. People listen to the radio too much. Look at all the albums that are classics that got no radio play, amrikkka's most wanted, straight outta
Posted by greezythumb
Compton etc. Etc. Back then heads didn't let the radio dictate whats hot. But know look at us. Like a bunch of phucking mindless robots.
Posted by greezythumb
Damn!! i said it that aftermath is running this rap sh*t right now!!!
Posted by mickdutch
Aftermath got sh*t on lock right now..cant hate..smart move...cant wait to hear his new sh*t!!
Posted by spazzmatik101
I don't know. I buy all aftermath product becuase it's always worth the money, but i hope this don't turn out like the rakim thing.
Posted by bumpfromcampbell
I dont care who kwon signs wit, as long hes rhyming with that rugged wu-tang style its all good]soemtimes n*ggaz got to go to where the creativity, freedom, and money is in full bloom. Yup greezy thumb those were the days where kids were creative, and knew what good hip hop was]instead of lettin the n*gga channel, and homo netwerk dictate to them wuts good music!

I smh this is a lost generation..... No one wants to think ne more.
Posted by cense251
Yo jamalkilz, if g-unit is on this album, i'll be right there with u..sad!! and mad!! but, i hope ray gets the promo he needs. One, donnell
Posted by the617pro
I gotta agree wit this, the chef, busta, dre, rza, ghost, and all of the aftermath promotion and money, this culd well turn in2 a classic, im only hopin it does live up 2 its name and is a ob4cl part 2. Im willin 2 c if they try summit new tho, so if there is summit unexpected, like a g-unit appearance, i will check it out b4 i judge it.

Raekwon on a dre beat woah. Ghost better appear on more than one track... Do i smell and eminem 16 on this album?????
Posted by Initial
What the??? raekwon the chef in aftermath? no way! aftermath's all comercialised and that's what wu-tang isn't about, the wu-tang clan are awesome, i love their music. It's very sad that raekwon signed with them. I hope he doesnt go soft like busta rhymes, 50 cent, and eminem have.
Posted by kaspa tha don
I cant stand 50 cent and g-unit. Oh and mobb deep and obie trice. They all suck. Raekwon what are u thinking son? stuff aftermath, shoulda signed to def jam although i cant stand jay-z either. If method man ever signes to aftermath then im turnin my back on the whole wu-tang clan! oh r.i.p o'l dirty bastard!

Posted by ny boy
Didn't wu (ghost face) have beef wit g-unit ??as far as muzic i think that would be a dope move but that also means al that beef was hipe or sell outs!!
Posted by REK
The industry needs new talent not washed up emcees always tryin 2 make a comeback, i say hip hop needs to go independent ,major labels are destroying hip hop, they just care about the money ,artist go out there make a good album and promote ur own sh*t!
Posted by big da

Anyone who thinks busta rhymes or dre would be a good addition to cuban link 2 was not around in 95, or if they were they are probably not from new york and can't relate to the vibe and times of the 90's in new york.

This news has just made my day. I am the docs biggest fan and when i say biggest fan, i mean biggest fan. I'm also a fan of the clan, together with the doc, this record will sure have me bumping. I would hope ghost is on a dre track with rae. Dre!!! holla at your boy!!!

Dr.dre is from nwa they were raw and gutta.rae is raw and gutta how can it not work.plus i know rae ain't just gonna put anything out, he want a classic just like us.who our people to say he can't do it because he wit dre what differents does it make rae is not pop and nether is em,50, they just not dumb they know what certain people like.rae know what his fans what he want the same thing.rae on aftermath is good f--k it that man got to put food on the table some way and if dre wanna help f--k it, you know you would too.stop f---in hating cause you ain't rae.
