Mos Def Cast in Upcoming Walter Mosley Film
Monday, June 12, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Brooklyn native Mos Def has been cast alongside acclaimed actor Jeffrey Wright in an upcoming adaptation of Walter Mosley’s popular novel “Little Scarlet.”
The 2004 thriller – a murder mystery that takes place in Los Angeles after the 1965 Watts riots – is one of several books in Mosley’s detective series that follows characters Easy Rawlins and Mouse.
In “Little Scarlett,” White cops hire private investigator Rawlins (Jeffrey Wright) in the wake of the racially-charged riots to investigate the murder of a Black woman, and his trigger-happy friend Mouse (Mos Def) comes to his aide.
Several of Mosley’s works have transitioned to the silver screen, including 1995’s “Devil in a Blue Dress” starring Denzel Washington – also based on the Easy Rawlins series – and 1998’s “Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned” starring Laurence Fishburne.
The upcoming film will be released via HBO Films’ production company Picturehouse, and Mosley is writing the script and serving as one of the producers.
Although Mos Def has released several hip-hop albums, including “Black On Both Sides” and “Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star,” he is known among film buffs for appearing in “The Italian Job” and “Something The Lord Made.” Meanwhile Golden Globe-winning actor Jeffrey Wright is recognized for his pivotal roles in “Syriana” and “Ali.”

This is what happens when cats dont cop legal copies of artist. Cant blame him for not putting out another album....all these "hip hop is dead" cats running around "love" preaching about how cam'ron,50, and the south are killing the game...but when a "true" hip hop artist puts anything out, the "hip hop is dead commitee" doesnt even hear it over their own bytching and complaining.
