50 Cent makes Forbes’ Celebrity Power List

Monday, June 19, 2006
By: Kenny Rodriguez

50 CentG-Unit head honcho 50 Cent made Forbes’ annual “Celebrity 100 Power List,” making him the only hip-hop artist on this year’s countdown.

50, born Curtis Jackson, captured eighth place on the annual list that ranks the highest paid celebrities based on their earnings and reputable buzz.

Aside from his album sales, amounting over 20 million to date, the Queens-born rapper was also recognized for his top-selling ringtones, G-Unit clothing line, and semi-biographical film “Get Rich Or Die Tryin’.”

“It’s what kind of currency does the star’s name have,” said Forbes editor Lea Goldman.

“It’s increasingly important how they are perceived both in industry circles and commercial circles, and this list represents who has cachet in both arenas.”

Other notable celebrities who made Forbes’ list include Tom Cruise (#1), Oprah Winfrey (#3), and Steven Spielberg (#6).

Yes i love to see a blackman represent his cummunity and break the typical stereo type that has plague rappers and most young black males so before thinking about hating on 50 realize he is a symbolic figure whom we should care for because there isn't alot of young black males representing to that maximum effect in the urban culture

50 is doing is thing and plus i hear he trying to get apple computers to do low cost computers for low income families, so he trying to get his own computer line out..that's major and taking it to the next level...

I'm glad that it was done and i'm glad that a guy like 50 cent did it. I hope that all of his possitive accalades bring possitve results for 50 and his audience. Yeah...

Supply and demand sair. I dont think the cat is totally evil yanno. A fast food joint is gonna make a tripple cheese burger with bacon and chili...even with a high percentage of ppl overweight in this country. Is that evil intent? is the fast food joint killing you buy suppling the need, or is society killin themselves with the demand and desire for it? if im in the business of making movies and society is calling for blood and guts flicks, and im in the "business" of making films...im might have to entertain that. "i" look at hip hop as a means of entertainment...some books are gonna be sci fi, some uplifting...know what your getting and know the difference. Some ppl dont know the difference from real life and what they hear on a cd, or see on tv. Thats "all" they know. Consumers have to be more responsible...cause to call it totally evil is like saying ppl are not smart enuff to conduct themselves, and know the difference....but i feel you tho sair.....the thing about common sense is it "aint" common.

In forbes magazine, 50 said: "i never got into it [the industry] for the music. I got into it for the business." at least he's honest. Dude raps about what sells. We don't blame robert deniro for starring in mobster flicks...

^^^exactly...but with that being said...some music is made to inspire ppl to a greater state of mynd, to rise, to educate. 50 aint really making that type of music. Know what your buying, and know the difference. This has been happening in hip hop. When their was serious acts like public enemy...you had cats like red head kingpin..lol. Or while they had ed og and the bulldogs they had kwame on some polkadot shyt. I can agree that the mo' murda'/receipe on how to get aids/dope dealing for dummies format that these new skool cats are taking it a bit far.

Nah nah ya'll got it backwards. Understand the majority of hardcore hip hop consumers are young caucasian or wateva. So think that artists kno wat they are doin...they apply 2 the audience with intent 2 sale themself. Normally ppl who drop knowledge don't really sale cuz that is not wat majority wants. 50 is doin it right make the money then hit em wit the business hard so they have 2 let u in.

Well, kalliope4eva u make mad sense.. Educate my dude..people can hate on 50 or they could love him. But u gotta give the dude his props in the business side of things.i think 50 is the first rapper i know of trying to bring out his own computer line by apple computers. Shit is in the works right now. His music may not be all positive but u got to respect his game.

Sure 50 has the money, what he doesn't have is real actual talent nor truth. 50 is a failure for the american hip-hop fans and the people.

"don't hate, just congratulate"...this should motivate more people to step their game up in whatever they are doing or aspire to be.

I wish us young black males.. Or to think of it most of you guys posting are probably white... Anyways. Why cant the young hip hop generation use proper grammar and correct spelling. It's like advertising to the world that we are a bunch of dummies when we are truly smart. Ok if 50 rapped about anything else he would not sell. So he has to rap about killing and whatever and get as much paper as he can, so that he can make a difference. It's all hustlin baby
