The Game Engaged, ‘Waist Deep’ Film a Hit
Monday, June 26, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Compton-born rapper The Game has confirmed his engagement to actress Valeisha Butterfield, the daughter of US Congressman G.K. Butterfield (D-NC).
Butterfield, who appeared in films “Remember The Titans” and “Road Trip,” told Sister 2 Sister magazine that Game proposed to her with a 19-carat engagement ring.
“I was just as surprised as my family and everybody was,” Butterfield said. “I didn't pass out, but I buckled and he caught me. We never dated, that's the thing; we went from being friends to being engaged.”
The couple held a private engagement dinner in California that was attended by stars such as producer Lil’ Jon and actress/singer Hilary Duff. Their wedding is scheduled to take place next year on March 22.
In related news, crime drama Waist Deep, which stars Tyrese Gibson and The Game, had one of this month’s most impressive premieres – earning $9.4 million in its first weekend despite opening in a mere 1,004 theaters nationwide.
The film brought in an average of $9,414 per theater, not far off from Adam Sandler’s higher profile comedy 'Click' which earned an estimated $40 million (an average of $10,669 in 3,749 theaters).
