Lil’ Kim Released from Jail, Under House Arrest
Tuesday, July 4, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Brooklyn-born rapper Lil’ Kim, who has spent nearly 10 months in jail for a perjury conviction, was released early yesterday on good behavior.
“Today is a joyous day for me and my family,” Kim said in a released statement. “I am extremely grateful and happy to be home.”
“Many special thanks go out to my fans, who were critical in helping me get through these past 10 months. I am looking forward to adjusting back to my normal life and getting back to work.”
Lil’ Kim, born Kimberly Jones, was convicted for lying to a federal grand jury in a trial stemming from a 2001 shootout outside of New York’s Hot 97 radio station. One man was hurt in the crossfire.
The gunfire erupted when Lil’ Kim’s entourage ran into rap group Capone-N-Noreaga, whose 2000 song “Bang Bang” contains an insult from rival rapper Foxy Brown.
Kim testified she did not see two of her close friends, Suif Jackson and Damion Butler, at the scene, but was later discredited when the men pleaded guilty to gun charges.
Last September her sentence was set for a year and a day, but she was released more than two months early for good behavior.
Kim will remain under house arrest for 30 days at her Alpine, NJ home, and will be under subsequent supervision for three years.
