Dr. Dre, Iovine Sue Headphone Company
Friday, August 4, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Producer Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine, the chairman of Interscope/Geffen/A&M Records, are suing a Delaware company over claims that they were supposed to “manufacture, market and distribute a line of headphones” to be called “Beats by Dr. Dre.”
The Los Angeles lawsuit alleges that SLS International, Pentagram Design Inc., Jibe Audio and Steve Lamar “failed and refused to perform under the contract” and instead planned on selling Dr. Dre’s signature headphones through a separate company.
Iovine and Dre are seeking damages of at least $1 million, and an injunction that would prevent the companies from selling the headphones, or using the “Beats by Dr. Dre” trademark.
