Mos Def Releasing New Album, Several Projects

Tuesday, August 8, 2006
By: Kenny Rodriguez

Mos DefBrooklyn rapper/actor Mos Def has finally completed his solo album, “True Magic,” his first full-length project since 2004’s “The New Danger.”

The album is slated for release on Sept. 19 through Geffen Records, and features production from Kanye West, the Neptunes, Rich Harrison, among others.

Mos also has several silver screen projects in the works – including “The Brazilian Job,” the sequel to 2003’s “The Italian Job,” and a brief cameo in Will Farrell’s latest comedy “Talladega Nights.”

Lastly, after the success of his 24-second short film created for Converse’s Spring 2006 ad campaign, Mos Def has inked a deal to release his own shoe based on the classic Chuck Taylor All-Star sneaker.

His signature sneakers feature laser-etched pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline, and are available now in stores

DPC says:
I'll definitely be buying this. It'll be a breath of fresh air i'm sure. I look forward to "the brazilian job" too since his role in "the italian job" was really good. He hasn't had a bad role in any movie though.

Sair says:
Mos def adds balance to this cluttered vain industry. I will be copping this lp__ if nothing else then for variety.

Thank god! i needed a change from the rems, grills, and modern hip hop temptations dances]. Hip hop needs the balance or else its goin to die.

Stfu with all this "fight for us" bullshyt! defend yo muthafukkin' selves, be a man dammit!

cense251 says:
I agree in one sense wit u -we must love our seleves, fight for wut we need/want, and be responsible for ourselves, however we all all bros and sis locked in this struggle together]and the blood that binds us-is deeper than the color, hair textures, finanical status, gender, issues, states, waters that divides us. We should not continue to neglect, abuse, kill, or hurt one another, but we should begin the process of getting physically, mentally, and spiritually fit]to begin the process of breaking the shackles of mental slavery that has had us in a rut for over 400 yrs.its time we strive for our indepence. F*ck intergration]we need independence.

ATHOTEP says:
Yeah i'm looking for that cook up from mos def, he's definitely one of the nicest emcee's when he ain't singing!

DONCARLO says:
It's a shame dudes like mos def don't enough respect in the rap game... True mcee.

Kalliope4eva says:
Doesnt get respect? dayem...not going at you but are you reading the posts? he has a great deal of respect...nobody better ever ever ever ever attempt to out spit or do this guy. Str8 hip hop. But whut i dont understand is its alooottt of cats who are quick to say hes the best but when he takes hip hop in another direction (forward) with cds like new danger, but err'body want him to stay in the same spot with older joints. Cats want the same thing from nas....wake up. Support tha cat if you like em and cop a "real" cd.

cense251 says:
Mos get respect from real hip hoppers, but not that mainstream respect and exposure for his music that he deserves. Same thing wit little brother, scarface , cee lo, comm sense, talib, jean grea, ruck aka sean price, tarik aka black thought and many other old skool & undergeound cats. Who at certain times get the exposure(wheter they hook up wit a hot beat maker or do a movie-or wut ever the reason), but not as much as the wack artist who are commerical as hell.

cense251 says:
Shouts to --- pete rock, preem, beat nuts, artifacts, soul of mischief, east flat bush project, bush babies, super friends, ditc, waste lands, main source, prince paul, beat minerz, dj quik, royce the 5'9 alcoholics, jarassic 5, the exercutioners, pharcyde, del the funky homosapien, mc gruff, and other hip hop cats who dont get mention! nuff respect......

Kalliope4eva says:
Sorry cense....but somehow in the posts that i read from cats saying how they get now love. Im thinking love=money to most of cats.shyt it aint like "dem franchise boys" can be in a movie like mos (props and money), host def poetry (props and money), get allllll their dayem tracks from the hotest producer in the game like common, land a spot on chappells movie and his show like talib, common, mos etc.the fact that they get spots in magazines "just" because ppl are thinking they aint getting props. None of those cats even seem like they fight to get what they want. They think its deserved to them because they do a particular type of music. Like, little brother prolly pocketed allll the dayem money from their albums because they dont have the marketing and promotion somebody like ric ross has. But how can you hate when ross has to pay for those videos, pay to do err'dayem thing you see in the mags and all. Those acts like mos def prolly look at it like, shyt i aint about to grind in this genre i'd rather do a movie or host a show. C'mon man, when you throw a coin in the fire both ends get burned. Stop hating...lmao. This mean you cense...lol. Jus phucking wit ya'. Lol.

Kalliope4eva says:
Dayem im still sleepy..."list of corrections"1. They are gettin no love. 2. Dem franchise boys cant be in a movie..............basically, dont be fooled in to thinking the world is feeling everyone you see on the screen. Those companies get paid to put that shyt on tv. They dont get a commercial because they are hot..shyt if i paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a spot for "bubblisous fish eyes" they would take my money and you would see that video along with the rest. Some of those artist dont want to pay, so they dont get the air time or play. Cause at the end of the day, the child, adult or dayem fool...is gonna want the product that he just saw on tell lie vision. Period. He aint gonna ask for something he doesnt "know" exist. And like i state over and over again....its sad because it seems like "all" some cats know nowadays is whuts on tv. They dont dig in the stack of records and tapes like we used to. Shyt we would judge by the dayem covers if we had too. Take it home and have a gem, i did that with del. I draw my azz off and appreciated his cover (forgot the name, but the one with catch a bad one on it)...and he earned my dollar off that. Then when i heard i went thru the whole heiro crew (opios my fav). But they aint doin that, when i was a shorty my moms would take me to the "record" store...it was no directory or billboard "directing" me toward a lame act, it was just finding seeking and you shall find.....lol. Truth, in anything. Those who look find it....now stop hating cen
