EPMD Reunites for VH1’s Annual Hip Hop Honors
Thursday, August 17, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith are reuniting this fall for a special EPMD performance on VH1’s annual Hip Hop Honors awards show.
The producer/MC duo will perform for the first time in eight years on Oct. 14 at B.B. King Blues Club in Manhattan’s Times Square.
The Long Island-based group first severed ties in 1993 after Smith’s house was burglarized by armed robbers, one of whom claimed Sermon allegedly paid them to do it.
Sermon was arrested and briefly detained, but never charged with a crime. Later Sermon accused Smith of mishandling the group’s money.
They eventually reunited in the late 1990s to release two new albums, featuring cameos by Def Squad’s Redman and Keith Murray.
During their heyday, EPMD dropped such classic songs as “Strictly Business,” “You Gots To Chill,” “So Wat Cha Sayin,” “Rampage,” and “Crossover.” They are expected to perform those hits during the reunion show.
