T.I., Common, RZA Act in Upcoming Crime Drama
Tuesday, August 22, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Hip-hop artists T.I., Common, and the RZA are set to appear in the cast of “American Gangster,” a crime drama starring award-winning actors Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
Based on the life of Frank Lucas, the Harlem-based heroin trafficker who turned informant, the film is directed by Ridley Scott – whose past movies include “Gladiator,” “Black Hawk Down,” “Hannibal,” and “Thelma & Louise.”
In the 1970s biopic, Washington stars as the infamous kingpin who once smuggled drugs into the U.S. inside of the coffins of Vietnam soldiers. T.I. plays his nephew, and Common plays a member of a Washington-based drug ring.
Meanwhile Crowe co-stars as Detective Richie Roberts, and Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA plays one of his expert surveillance partners.
“Right now I’m learning everything I can about my character,” T.I. said.
“I’m just there to soak things up. There’s a bunch of Academy Award winners on this cast, and I’m just there to learn. I’m in school.”
The film is slated to hit theaters sometime in 2007.
