E. Ness Back for More
Tuesday, September 12, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
Former ‘Making the Band’ star E. Ness is back with
‘The Ness Best Thing’ mixtape after a long absence from the spotlight and promises to bring heat.
Boss P. Diddy and the pervasive Aphilliates, Philly natives DJ Drama and Don Canon, host the new tape, which features freestyles over label mate Black Rob’s old ‘Can I Live’ track and ‘F*ck Ni**as, F*ck Bitches’, inspired by the late Notorious B.I.G. “I took the concept from Biggie when he freestyled over Dr. Dre's beats [on 'Road to the Riches.'],” said Ness.
“I was just showing n---as I could rap over anyone's track no matter the region. I used all West Coast beats like 'Bitches Ain't Sh--,' 'This Is How We Do It,' 'What's My Name,' 'Gin and Juice’.”
‘Talkin Dirty,’ the lead single for Ness’ upcoming solo debut ‘Nessessary’, produced by 9th Wonder associate Khrysis, is one of only two original songs on ‘The Ness Best Thing’. He seems to be saving the realness for retail. “I recorded whole albums with 9th Wonder, recorded whole albums with Tony Dofat, recorded whole albums with D-Dot . I'm talking about 12, 14 joints when I say whole albums,” said the Southwest, Philly native. Also among Ness’ stash of unheard material reportedly are songs produced by Swizz beats, Will.I.Am and Just Blaze.
“I had to get to being a regular ni**a,” said Ness of his hiatus. A revamped deal with Bad Boy combined with the company’s recent radio success-i.e. Young Joc, Danity Kane, Cassie- has him back on the hunt for mainstream success.
