Big Tigger Rejects Offer for Morning Show
Wednesday, October 4, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
BET’s Big Tigger turned down an offer to continue hosting the morning show at New York’s Power 105.1 radio station, saying he was insulted by the money they were offering.
“I know what I’m worth, and I know what a morning show is worth to a station,” Tigger told the New York Daily News.
“We couldn’t agree on what that was. There were no hard feelings. I love Power 105. I love [program director] Helen Little. It just didn’t work out.”
In May, the long-time DJ was called on to host the morning show after its former host, Troi “Star” Torain, was fired for making on-air lewd comments about a minor.
Tigger leaves co-hosts Egypt and Donnell Rawlins, who are there temporarily until Star’s permanent replacement is found.
“We had never worked together,” Tigger said. “We had to put a show together on the fly, following someone who had done as well as in the ratings as Star.”
“Under those circumstances, I thought what we did was pretty impressive. We talked about issues, we had jokes, we played music. It’s wasn’t tame, it wasn’t too racy. Kids could listen. It had balance. I don’t hear a lot of that on New York radio these days.”
