Shady Gets Right About 'The Re-Up'
Thursday, October 26, 2006 By: Michael Ivey
Eminem's next project will not be a street mixtape as originally stated but a compilation album, due December 5, unleashing relatively unheard Shady Records emcees over beats by The Alchemist and Shady himself.
"Instead of putting it out there rough and unfinished, I thought we should add some other new tracks, make it a real album, and put it in the record stores to give these new artists a real boost," Eminem said of 'The Re-Up'. Shady Records artists Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater, and Ca$his are the main recipients of Eminem's promotion. "You Don't Know," featuring Eminem, fellow Interscope brethren 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks, plus Ca$his, is the lead single. The project also features a recently leaked remix of Obie Trice's booming "Cry Now," with Stat Quo and Billion Bucks.
"What happened is that the material was so good and the tracks were getting produced like a regular album," said Eminem. He and The Alchemist, Eminem's DJ on the Anger Management 3 Tour, share the bulk of production duties on 'The Re-Up'. Akon and D12's Bizarre and Kuniva are also featured.
Eminem felt the need to clarify his intentions because of a bevy of rumors circulating on the Internet, such as 'The Re-Up' is a dedication to late D12 emcee, and Eminem's close friend, Proof. The emcee/label head says that that project is on the way, but it wouldn't be fair to his friend's memory or his new artists to release it now.
