Dr. Dre Producing Majority of Raekwon’s Album

Friday, November 10, 2006
By: Kenny Rodriguez

Dr. DreRaekwon has reached out to Dr. Dre for his long-awaited album, “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Pt. 2,” and he recently announced the legendary producer will be producing the majority of the LP.

“I just felt it was going to be something to excite the fans in hip-hop,” Raekwon recently told MTV News. “Let them know I’m dealing with a whole list of thorough super-producers that’s making sure this legacy of ‘Cuban Linx’ carries on.”

As previously reported, Wu-Tang Clan’s The RZA is also on-hand as executive producer to the project.

“We thought it was a brilliant idea to have RZA and Dr. Dre collaborate, us being big Dre fans,” Raekwon said. “His classics sheet is way long. As well as RZA’s.”

According to the Chef, Dr. Dre was expected to only produce a handful of tracks, but the list of songs eventually expanded as the two worked together.

“Allah put us in the right place. I’m working real hard, putting little pieces together. The album is coming out great. Everything is up to par. We’re still working on it; we never stop working till the last day.”

Although there is no official release date, “OB4CL2” is slated to hit stores sometime next year.

Aside from RZA and Dr. Dre, the album will also feature production from DJ Scratch, Scram Jones, and the late J Dilla.

In related news, Raekwon makes an acting cameo in the straight-to-DVD film “Coalition.”

The movie is set in the New York as police try to infiltrate a local organization known as “Survival of the Black Man” – a group that attempts to control the city’s construction industry.

Raekwon plays the role of “Akey,” and he also co-produced the film’s soundtrack which features Method Man, The RZA, and Fat Joe.

This should work... Raekwon is top form in eastcoast swagger... And dre... Well__ dre just is....

That's a great look for the chef, imo. The lp should be good, but people are going to sh*t on it, because it doesn't move unit, so F*ck record sells, & enjoy the music. That's what this is all about. Wu-tang forever.

I dont like it it should of been a all wu project

I think its gonna be hot :) whats wrong with the forum by the way??
Posted by dutchboi
This is good news for raekwon because dr.dre knows how to make hits. Its wierd cuz im used of raekwon rappin on some rza beats and other several producers...i cant imagine tha chef rappin on dr. Dre beats but it should turn out good.

Bring back the trouble neck brothers and rough house survivors. I'm telling yall this cause that's what i'm bumping in my mp3 now. Also, my moms always said if you aint got nothing nice to say don't say anything at all. Chef and dre? i don't care and i aint got nothing nice to say. Yea yea i know, i'm a hater.

I dunno about dr. Dre makin his beats...last time dre produced a whole eastcoast album was the firm and that sh*t flopped, and the line up in that group was mad nice( az, foxy brown, nas, cormega/nature...raekwon should get dj premier, marly marl, pete rock, lord finese, and rza to produce the album. That would be a classic hands down
Posted by Lutherphil
Ah yo the thats a ill colab dre & rza.....i smell another classic.
Posted by BADNEWZ BULLY
Hell yaa..cosign badnewz bully...dre and rza producing together and then the chef spittin on top of it? man cant wait for that sh*t

For those who say this is not a good fit, they must not know dre's track record..first of all no real producer limits himself to one coast one artist one style. A real producer reinvents himself and can produce anyone.. That's the difference between him and a n*gga that just do beats..you can point out the firm flop but name one flop since...remember no dre no 50 (oh & how many times platinum was that project?)
Posted by kdizzle
Yea the firm flop but it still went platium... Sounds like a sucess to me... And the album wasnt that bad yo... Cant wait to the rza n dre work together this is gonna be intresting

With two of the top 2 producers of all time how can you doubt this album????.......its gonna be a classic

Game was on the shelf, till 50 got suckered into partnering up and pushing the project. Nobody knows where eve is. Dre put the hardest working man in hip hop (other than diddy) busta on a hiatus. Re-retired rakim without even putting out nada. I'll believe this when it hits the shelves.

Raekwon+dr. Dre+ rza=classic material.. Nuff said.

It'll be a great album! close your eyes and imagine for a minute the unorthodox multifaceted layers or rza beats with the club banging, base dropping instrumental interwining of dr dre on the same album. Nevertheless the only drawback is raekwon because he's not all that within the wu. Half the time after one of his bars that he spits, raekwon leaves you saying: "what the F*ck did he say!" other than that if these differing personalities don't clash and quarrel and they complete this project it will be a hip hop classic!

Meh, dre's beats usually don't appeal to me...i'll still buy this though..

Dre is the finest, black attack is probaly is tears right now cuz forum isn't working

This will be a great album for hip hop but i agree with the dude who said it might not move units. U know sometimes i feel like an old dude because i love wu so much and these young teenage cats don't know or respect them type of mcs.

I have a question. Did mcdonalds or pepsi or any other successful brand ever change their original recipe to become what they are today? why do artist change producers so much. All wu classics were all produced by rza. Rza needs to bring that ill sound back from the era that made wu such an empire. Rza is my favorite producer but his tracks recently lost that true east coast sound since he moved to the west coast. Whenever i go out to buy that new album from any wu affiliated solo artist i check to see if rza, tru master or mf doom is on production. If not, i dont buy. Any wu cd should only produced by rza or anyone wit that east coast sound. Stick to the original formula!! anyone out ther agree?

Raekwon the chef needs to stick with his old fashioned recipe that made cuban lynx 1 taste so good. Classic recipe with all wu members in the pot boiled by rza hot as fire beats. Why change the old recipe of the east by adding western flava. If burger king changed their ingredients they would lose alot of customers. Rae is doin just that. Did he pay attention to the sales of his last 2 cds? artist always go crying to the big producers in hopes of bringing their career back to life. They oftn 4get about the producers who gave their career life to begin with. Wu tang is starting to become "who-tang?".

Rza+dre=wutang with west coast flava. Shaolin has just become shao-lame. I respect dre and rza. Rza lost his east coast sound. Too much bass. Rza needs to move back to new york to regain that grimey sound from the nineties that made classic wu sound so unique. Now everyone sounds like everyone else. Do u think masta killa would turn to timbaland? how about deck to lil john? just doesnt sound right. I miss the original wu clan.

i'm a little disappointed because of some of the reviews i read. It sames to me these smart dumb cats don't know ether and hreoin if it was bagged and sold on the streets. I just hate goofies sometimes. Anyway, this could be the best thing (if it actually happens) since pornography. Lol. And by the way that firm sh*t is classic material thank u. As long as ghost and rae do their job my fault, i meant rza . I see another 5mics. U that ni*ga rae(g.o.a.t.)........

The third coming doesn't know what he is talking about! a good mc can collaborate with hip-hops top producers! dr. Dre is one of the best and the is no doubt that this is gonna be hot! the firm may have flopped but dre has also produced hot tracks for hov. I am not a big hov fan but the watcher 2 was hot! this is no doubt gonna be the hottest album of 07'! and rae is the best storyteller without a doubt! obfcl2 foeva!!!

Change shows growth. When the first cuban linx came out in 1995 it appealed to a different type of hip hop fan. We were living in different time and all hip hop was good.. Dre was hitting, the firm was hitting, nore was hitting, bad boy was hitting, wutang was on fire, etc. Etc. Rappers have to appeal to the masses, hence the phase "having mass appeal"...today's hip hop listener are young and have a short attention span. They are looking for the next best thing... So as a true hip hop fan i am looking to rae coming with the sequel.. And who knows working with dre may have always on rae's "to do" list.. So please people live and let live. By the way in '95 i was a senior in college...lol

Raekwon and dre? best match since panut butter and kethup.

I think hes underrated and its been 4 so long that cats think he fell off. But we all know the truth he got skills mad skills.now watch when his album comes out heads will jump back on his wagon like pubic hairs around tips hovas over nas undecided with an unstable mind and 50 living off publicity idiot plus im not understanding why some appreciate the fakeness and ignore the realness
