Dr. Dre Producing Majority of Raekwon’s Album
Friday, November 10, 2006 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Raekwon has reached out to Dr. Dre for his long-awaited album, “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Pt. 2,” and he recently announced the legendary producer will be producing the majority of the LP.
“I just felt it was going to be something to excite the fans in hip-hop,” Raekwon recently told MTV News. “Let them know I’m dealing with a whole list of thorough super-producers that’s making sure this legacy of ‘Cuban Linx’ carries on.”
As previously reported, Wu-Tang Clan’s The RZA is also on-hand as executive producer to the project.
“We thought it was a brilliant idea to have RZA and Dr. Dre collaborate, us being big Dre fans,” Raekwon said. “His classics sheet is way long. As well as RZA’s.”
According to the Chef, Dr. Dre was expected to only produce a handful of tracks, but the list of songs eventually expanded as the two worked together.
“Allah put us in the right place. I’m working real hard, putting little pieces together. The album is coming out great. Everything is up to par. We’re still working on it; we never stop working till the last day.”
Although there is no official release date, “OB4CL2” is slated to hit stores sometime next year.
Aside from RZA and Dr. Dre, the album will also feature production from DJ Scratch, Scram Jones, and the late J Dilla.
In related news, Raekwon makes an acting cameo in the straight-to-DVD film “Coalition.”
The movie is set in the New York as police try to infiltrate a local organization known as “Survival of the Black Man” – a group that attempts to control the city’s construction industry.
Raekwon plays the role of “Akey,” and he also co-produced the film’s soundtrack which features Method Man, The RZA, and Fat Joe.
