Jay-Z Responds to Jim Jones’ Disses
Friday, November 17, 2006 By: John Kennedy
Just a day after Soundscan clocked Jim Jones’ first week album sales at 96,000 units, Jay-Z has responded to the Dip-Set capo’s disses with the freestyle track “Brooklyn High.”
“What, a little punk ass buck?” Jay asks before the beat drops, referring to Jimmy’s sales. “That’s ballin’? Well, I guess men lie women lie. It’s over for that ballin’. It’s my turn.”
Jacking the beat to Jones’ “We Fly High,” Jay-Z retorts with lines like “I’m ballin’ for real, you pump fakin’ it / Manhattan keep on making it / Brooklyn keep on taking it.” He even comes sideways at former friend and Dip-ally Dame Dash: “Ball game nigga, it’s over for you lames / Give me back my chain, it’s over for you dames.”
The track comes after a year of Jim Jones dissing Jay-Z and Roc-a-Fella Records, most recently on mixtape tracks “Alarm” and “Kingdom Done.”
Jim Jones’ third album Hustler’s P.O.M.E. (Product Of My Environment) is in stores now, while Jay-Z’s much hyped comeback album, Kingdom Come drops Tuesday.
