[Update] Foxy Brown Explains Florida Arrest
Wednesday, February 28, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Foxy Brown publicly explained her side of the story regarding her Feb. 15 arrest at a Florida beauty store.
“The only crime I’m guilty of is being a young black woman,” Foxy Brown said on Monday, addressing her recent arrest in Pembroke Pines, Fla.
The rapper, born Inga Marchand, spoke about the incident for the first time at Brown Memorial Baptist Church in Brooklyn.
She is accused of throwing hair glue at store owner Hayssam Ghoneim, then spitting on him and pushing him after he asked her to leave the bathroom so that the shop could close for the evening.
Brown claims she was only using the bathroom, but the store owner would not let her finish and began dragging her out while she was still half-dressed.
“I was exposed from the waist down on the toilet,” she told reporters.
Once Foxy left the store, an officer was waiting for her in the parking lot. According to authorities, she used violence while resisting arrest. However, she tells a different story.
“I’m the victim of an overzealous police department who engaged in police brutality, and a money-hungry store owner whose motives are for me to pay his mortgage on his house and his children’s tuition,” Foxy said Monday.
The 27-year-old is due back in court this week after being charged with resisting an officer and simple battery. She could go to prison if a judge decides that her latest offense violates the probation given in her 2004 assault on two manicurists.
