Al Sharpton, HSAN To March Against Tony Yayo
Thursday, March 29, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Al Sharpton, Russell Simmons, and other community leaders are planning a march to protest the alleged actions of G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo, who reportedly assaulted a 14-year-old teenager.
Billed as a “call to action and public grievance,” the rally is planned for Monday as a response to the artist’s alleged assault on the son of Jimmy “Henchman” Rosemond, head of Czar Entertainment and manager of Compton rapper The Game.
Yayo, born Marvin Bernard, pleaded not guilty on Sunday to misdemeanor charges of harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. He is accused of repeatedly pushing and smacking James Rosemond.
The boy’s mother, Cynthia Reed, has spoken out against the alleged assault, and will reportedly participate in the demonstration.
“We are involved to try to help mediate this problem,” says Dr. Benjamin Chavis, president/CEO of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network.
“In truth, every child in our community is precious. The theme of the Hip-Hop Summit is taking back responsibility.”
Meanwhile, 50 Cent’s lawyer has released a statement claiming that 50 was not present during the alleged attack, despite reports to the contrary.
“We are conducting our own investigation to determine exactly what happened,” said Benjamin Brafman, the G-Unit rapper’s lawyer.
“One thing I can say with absolute certainty, however, is that at the time of the alleged incident, 50 Cent was not in New York State.”
Brafman says they may file a defamation lawsuit against Reed unless she retracts her public statement and issues a formal apology.
