50 Cent To Release ‘Curtis’ Album In June
Monday, April 23, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
50 Cent is gearing up for his highly anticipated album, “Curtis,” and with several big-name producers and R&B cameos, this may be a new sound coming from the G-Unit rapper.
The album, titled after 50’s birth name Curtis Jackson, will feature production by a few familiar names: Dr. Dre, Timbaland, and Eminem (who also makes a vocal appearance).
But surprisingly, there will also be several R&B cameos by pop artists Justin Timberlake, Akon, Mary J. Blife, Robin Thicke, and Nichole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls.
“I want the music to sound like something I haven’t done before, so I needed to change the guys I worked with on the last project,” 50 said last year in an interview with Teen Music.
“On my last album I stuck with what people have expected from me already, but now I feel more comfortable to do something else.”
“I’ve been listening to a lot of Motown stuff – Smokey Robinson – a lot of older music, so I got a lot of soulful loops … I took material from some old, old records and recreated them.”
This might be a change from 50’s typically hardcore sound, but who knows what to expect from the Grammy-winning artist who dropped “Get Rich Or Die Tryin” (10x platinum) and “The Massacre” (7x platinum).
“Curtis” hits stores on June 27 via Shady/Aftermath/Interscope.
