50 Cent Plans Back-To-Back LPs, Then Hiatus
Wednesday, June 6, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
As 50 Cent plans his career like a chess game – according to the G-Unit artist, after his upcoming album, “Curtis,” he will follow up with another LP, “Before I Self Destruct,” and then go on a hiatus from the studio.
In a recent interview with MTV News, 50 Cent said he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his mentor Eminem, and take a break from recording music.
“Em ain’t put out an album in five years,” 50 explained. “It builds anticipation because he’s away.”
“And he really doesn’t enjoy what comes with the success. He likes to just be away a lot more, just be shy toward people. And then the less common you appear, the bigger your celebrity. So then he isolates himself, he becomes more popular. People are more excited.”
50’s next album, “Curtis,” will be dropping on Sept. 4, and he is already setting a release date for another album, “Before I Self Destruct” – which was originally set to drop first.
“I recorded 10 records to the concept of ‘Before I Self Destruct,’ but I put them aside when I started to create ‘Curtis,’" 50 said.
“‘Before I Self Destruct’ is scheduled to be released February 4, which is the anniversary of ‘Get Rich or Die Tryin’. And it'll be my final studio recording for where I’m at, for my deal. I did a five-album deal, and the fifth album is a greatest-hits CD.”
