50 Cent Excused From Allen Iverson Trial
Monday, June 18, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
50 Cent will not have to testify at NBA star Allen Iverson’s assault trial later this month, a federal judge ruled on Friday.
The lawsuit stems from a 2005 brawl between members of Iverson’s security team and patrons at a downtown Washington bar.
Two patrons have sued Iverson – accusing the basketball player of hitting one of them with a bottle – and charged his security team with several allegations including assault and conspiracy.
50 Cent was not involved in the fight, but lawyers for the patrons said the rapper knew some of Iverson’s security detail and could testify at trial regarding their character.
“They worked together on previous occasions,” said attorney Gregory L. Lattimer.
50, born Curtis Jackson, argued that since he was not involved in the fight and is not named in the lawsuit, he could not be forced to testify in court. The federal judge agreed with Jackson.
The alleged victims are demanding over $5 million from Iverson and his security guards. The trial begins on June 27.
