Lil Jon Preps 'Crunk Rock' Before Year's End
Wednesday, August 1, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
After years in the making, Lil Jon is finally releasing his half-rap, half-rock album, “Crunk Rock,” with the help of guest artists Kid Rock, Three 6 Mafia, P.O.D., Lil Wayne, and others.
“I’ve been doing crunk rock for the past two years,” said Lil Jon, who first became known for his boisterous brand of crunk music on his 2001 single, “Bia Bia.”
“I did a street record with Three 6 Mafia in October [2006] where I say: ‘Party like a rock star, f*ck like a porn star.’ Now everybody wants to be a rock star because it's cool.”
The album will feature several cameos including Lil Wayne, The Game, Ice Cube, Three 6 Mafia, Remy Ma, and rock artists Kid Rock and P.O.D.
“I worked with the guitar player from P.O.D., Marcos [Curiel], a punk band called Whole Wheat Bread from Jacksonville, Fla., Kid Rock and a few others,” Lil Jon explained.
“My shit is real rock guitars with my beats, not keyboard guitars with ghetto beats. It’s gonna be a little different from what you hear right now, but I think everyone will love it.”
“One thing I like is people are opening [their] ears to the music, because [we] tend to be closed-minded to shit we don’t know about. It might make a motherf*cker that don’t listen to rock go listen to some Guns N' Roses.”
There is no tentative release date for “Crunk Rock,” although Lil Jon’s label TVT Records is planning for sometime before the year’s end.
