Notorious BIG Film, Casting Call In The Works
Friday, August 10, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Fox Searchlight Pictures is looking to fill the role of the Notorious B.I.G. for an upcoming movie based on the slain rapper’s life.
Casting calls for the untitled project, which has been in development for nearly seven years, are searching for Biggie look-a-likes to portray the Brooklyn rapper on the big screen.
An official announcement on FoxSearchLight.com (or BiggieCasting.com) will be released today.
In 2005, Fox Searchlight Pictures secured the rights to a film about Biggie’s life from his mother, Voletta Wallace. Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts, who managed Biggie’s career, will be producing the film.
“As it relates to the individual Christopher Wallace – his looks, his stature, what he represented, the swagger, the sensibility of the man – all those elements are very difficult to find, no matter where you go," Barrow said yesterday.
“In the typical Hollywood world, no one came to mind outside of Forest Whitaker who could capture that essence genuinely.”
However, auditions will be held for both actors and non-actors in hopes of finding the best candidate. Producers hope to begin filming this fall.
The Notorious B.I.G., who rose to hip-hop stardom in the 1990s, was gunned down at the age of 24 on March 9, 1997.
