Foxy Brown Charged With Assault, Starts Label
Thursday, August 16, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Foxy Brown has been charged with assault for allegedly throwing a BlackBerry cellphone at her neighbor last month.
The 27-year-old rapper, born Inga Marchand, turned herself in earlier this week and was charged with felony assault of a 25-year-old neighbor in Brooklyn, NY.
The alleged victim, Arlene Raymond, was taken to Brooklyn Hospital and treated for a swollen right eye and lip, and is said to have a few loose teeth due to the incident.
Raymond later filed a complaint with police, and Foxy agreed to turn herself in on Tuesday.
Police said the two women got into a fight over Brown blasting her car stereo in their Prospect Heights neighborhood. A few days later on July 31, they passed each other on the street and Brown allegedly hurled a BlackBerry phone at her.
Brown is currently on probation after pleading guilty to assault in a 2004 dispute in a Manhattan nail salon. Then earlier this year, Brown was accused of violating probation in another incident at a Florida hair salon.
The Brooklyn rapper was threatened with jail time, but in June was restored to probation in good standing by a Manhattan judge, who said she had kept appointments with her probation officer, passed drug tests, and attended required anger management classes.
In related news, Foxy Brown has reportedly left Def Jam Recordings to start an independent label which will be distributed through Koch Records.
Last week Brown closed negotiations with Koch for her new label, Black Rose Entertainment. Foxy plans on releasing her upcoming LP, “Brooklyn’s Don Diva,” in December via the new label.
