Tuesday, September 4, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Compton rapper The Game and producer Timbaland are being sued for copyright infringement by an Indian-based company over an unlicensed sample used for the hit song “Put You On The Game.”
The recording company, Saregama India, filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Federal Court naming several affiliated labels including Interscope Records, Universal Music Group, Aftermath Entertainment, and G-Unit Records.
Saregama India, formerly known as The Gramophone Company of India, is one of the country’s largest recording companies and owns nearly 50% of all music ever released in India.
The company is seeking an undisclosed amount.
“Put You On The Game” was the fourth single off the Game’s 2005 album “The Documentary” which has sold over 2 million copies in the United States, and 5 million worldwide.
