Nas To Release Album Before Year’s End
Tuesday, September 11, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Almost a year since the release of his last album, “Hip-Hop Is Dead,” rapper Nas has announced an upcoming LP which may hit stores before the year’s end.
The Queensbridge artist recently told MTV News that the album, currently untitled, is halfway completed, and he expects to drop its first single sometime in October.
“I can’t reveal it yet,” Nas replied when asked about the album’s title.
“But if you remember, the original name for ‘Hip-Hop Is Dead’ was ‘N*gga.’ It was ahead of its time. [When the news leaked], Def Jam immediately went out there and said I was being facetious. But that was the name of my album.
“I don’t be out there with everybody. But I want them to know I’m heavily involved. That’s why I do the titles I do. ‘Hip-Hop Is Dead’ was a great substitute. It was perfect timing for that joint.”
No word yet on featured producers – although he disclosed that Black Eyed Peas’ Will.I.Am will not appear on the album, despite his previous work on ‘Hip-Hop Is Dead.’
When asked about DJ Premier, Nas replied: “Who knows?”
In related news, Nas is also gearing up a “Greatest Hits” album scheduled to drop in November.
