Remy Ma Posts Bail, Despite More Allegations
Friday, September 14, 2007 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Remy Ma, currently free on $250,000 bond for allegedly shooting an acquaintance, will not have to post more bail money, despite recent accusations of witness tampering.
A judge denied prosecutor’s requests to hike her bail following a new indictment of gang assault charges.
The Bronx rapper, 26, is now accused of sending several of her male friends to attack a witness’ boyfriend in a nightclub on Aug. 19 – leaving the victim with a black eye and a broken bone in his face.
The assault followed a conversation in which Remy reportedly told the man, “Your girlfriend is changing her [cell phone] number on me and people are taking the [witness] stand,” according to Assistant District Attorney Jason Berland.
Another man who was with the witness’ boyfriend was also beaten by the same group, Berland said.
Remy, born Remy Smith, is the only person being charged in the nightclub fight, since according to the victims, they covered their faces to protect themselves and couldn’t see who was hitting them.
Remy Ma has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Her initial charges stem from a July 14 shooting in Lower Manhattan when Remy Ma accused a female friend, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, of stealing $2,000 from her purse.
Barnes-Joseph was shot twice in the abdomen, and subsequently hospitalized for 16 days.
