Mos Def Works With Kanye For New LP

After the disappointment of his previous album, “True Magic,” Brooklyn rapper Mos Def has left Geffen Records to sign with an indie label, and he is reportedly working with Kanye West on an upcoming solo LP.

Mos Def recently inked a deal with Downtown Records – also home to Gnarls Barkley (Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo) – and Kanye West is expected to produce a few tracks on his next album, currently untitled.

Contrary to rumors, Mos Def does not plan on re-releasing his 2006 album, “True Magic,” which sold only 86,000 copies in the US.

After being repeatedly pushed back, “True Magic” finally hit stores last December in a clear CD case, with no cover art or accompanying music videos.

Despite the shoddy release, its main single “Undeniable” received a Grammy nomination.

In other news, Mos Def is also busy on his acting career, and he is currently working on eight separate movie projects – including the Danny Glover-directed film, “Touissaint,” alongside Don Cheadle and Wesley Snipes

I hope this is more like bob and the blackstar album than blue magic and the new danger...itd be great to have the old mos def back. With wu tang and jay coming back on the scene, and guys like siagon and lupe rising up hiphop is looking nice.

Kanye says the beats he gives to other artists are "throw away" beats as in scraps,leftovers,or some sh!t. Not actual recording sessions.mos need to take his ass back down to the natti and take talib wit'em! blackstar stop bullsh!t'n

Whoever keeps saying "bring the old mos back".. He never left... If you're truly paying attention to his lyrics on all three albums + blackstar, he is still the same lyricist but he is simply experimenting with new sounds and beats... The lyrics are still there but they are delivered in a different way... Listen to.... Mos is... Has been one of the illest mcs in the game, period. A lot of katz can't hear the intellect or the melodic uniqueness this kat brings so effortlessly, he is natural. One of the only mcs records i'll spend my 15 bones on, and still bump every record he's made. This man's sound has longevity, and in 15 years when our kids are grown, they're gonna still be listening to mos w/ amazement. Respect to tha real, don't think we have to worry about him selling out to the phony & pointless.
