T.I.’s Legal Team In Serious Motion
Wednesday, November 21, 2007 By: Michael Ivey
Multi-platinum artist T.I. and his lawyers want the judge in the Atlanta native’s federal weapons case to dismiss physical evidence and statments against him on the grounds that they were gathered illegally. The emcee’s attorney’s Monday in U.S. District Court filed motions to stop a jury from hearing evidence seized from T.I.’s car, and statements he made to federal
agents, when he was October 13 arrested for allegedly attempting to purchase guns and silencers from an undercover agent in a parking lot during a sting operation. T.I.’s defence team claims that arresting officers had no warrant to search their clients’ vehicle, that he may have spoken involuntarily and been detained improperly.
T.I., a convicted felon who has grown into a successful artist and entrepreneur, is on house arrest awaiting trial; he faces a maximum sentence of ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each weapons charge. His lawyers say more details about the motions will come later; the judge in the case will reportedly respond to the filings in court. A pretrail conference was scheduled November 21.
T.I. and The Grand Hustle K.I.N.G. Foundation November 22 host a Thanksgiving feast for the less fortunate from 6-9 pm at Club Crucial in Atlanta. In addition the crew will donate four hundred turkeys to four hundred families in need via the Atlanta Parks & Recreation Center.
