Boot Camp Click Marching Into History
Wednesday, December 5, 2007 By: Michael Ivey
Brooklyn based outfit Duck Down Records, home of Buckshot, Sean Price, Smiff N’ Wessun, and the entire Boot Camp Click, has reportedly struck a deal with A&E Television Networks’ The History Channel.
Exact details are sketchy at press time, but during a recent interview with Canadian online pub www.exclaimmagazine.com, Buckshot is quoted saying, “I’m a humble person, I’m not egotistical at all. But when you put in so much work and you put in so much grind, certain things start to happen like ESPN, this whole season (of men’s college basketball). The History Channel, the same thing for their urban stuff.”
Last month www.nobodysmiling.com reported that Duck Down Records reached an agreement with Disney owned worldwide sports entertainment network ESPN to provide the score for the company’s 2007-08 Men’s College Basketball coverage. A&E and The History Channel in May 2007 unveiled several television and broadband series in development to the tune of an approximately $600 million investment by parent company A&E Television Networks.
“More or less the future of Duck Down Records is gonna be now we’re about to bring hip-hop to a whole new level,” Buckshot says of the new deal with The History Channel.
Duck Down Records has also signed hip hop pioneer KRS-One, Diamond D, Canadian emcee Promise, Los Angeles mix master DJ Revolution, and former Rawkus Records act Chicago’s Kidz in the Hall. Independent distributor Navar releases Duck Down musicproduct. Duck Down television is also in the works.
“It’s gonna have everybody you can imagine as far as like the struggles,” says Buckshot. The oft underrated Duck Down/BCC front-man evokes the vision of former collaborator the late Tupac Shakur to describe his company’s next movement: “We’re
bringing everybody with us, man. one union, one nation.” Buckshot is again working with acclaimed producer 9th Wonder for a new album called ‘The Formula.’
