[Update] ‘The Vapors’ Film Expands Cast

 After initial reports of an upcoming film based on the Juice Crew, titled “The Vapors,” the movie’s cast has expanded to include Cuba Gooding Jr., Idris Elba, David Banner, and others.
It has been announced that Gooding Jr. will play the central of DJ Marley Marl, and Mississippi rapper David Banner has been cast as Biz Markie.
Meanwhile Evan Ross (“Pride”) will play MC Shan, Jackie Long (“ATL”) will play Big Daddy Kane, and Idris Elba (“The Wire”) will play Fly Ty.
As reported earlier, the role of Roxanne Shante will be played by Keke Palmer, from the 2006 film “Akeelah and the Bee.”
The Juice Crew was formed in the 1980s by Queens producer Marley Marl on his label, Cold Chillin’ Records. The rap collective included a host of notable rappers including Kool G Rap, Masta Ace, Craig G, and Tragedy.
“The Vapors” is due to begin production in January. It will be directed by Furqaan Clover, and executively produced by Marley Marl, Roxanne Shante, and Big Daddy Kane.
