ODB’s Estate Links With Merchandise Line
Wednesday, January 2, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
The estate of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, the late Wu-Tang Clan rapper, has signed a deal to produce an upcoming line of merchandise that will bear the rapper’s image on t-shirts, posters, and other accessories.
Icelene Jones, widow of ODB, recently entered into an agreement with MerchDirect – a Long Island-based company which distributes merchandise for R&B artist Sean Kingston, pop singer Joss Stone, and rock group Blue Oyster Cult.
“We feel that ODB appeals to Taking Back Sunday’s fans, but also appeals to a Joss Stone fan or the white suburban kids who totally love it and get it,” said Lee Tepper, co-founder of MerchDirect.
“He is definitely an artist that crosses boundaries of genres, and he not only appeals to all genres, but he’s respected, and everyone can relate to his wackiness in a way.”
T-shirts, posters, and other items bearing Ol’ Dirty’s likeness are scheduled to hit stores in February.
Ol’ Dirty, born Russell Jones, passed away in 2004 at the age of 35.
