Del the Funky Homosapien Leaks Music
Thursday, January 10, 2008 By: Michael Ivey
The Bay area’s own corky rap creator, Del, now grants fans online access to “Bubble Pop” from his new ‘Eleventh Hour’ LP due March 11 through indie label Definitive Juxx. “Bubble Pop” is available at online music distributor theorchard.com as well as myspace.com/delthefunkyhomosapien.
Del reportedly has been hunkered down in a recording studio studying music theory and making beats for the album; he samples Bob James’ “Take Me to the Mardi Gras”-used in Run DMC’s “Peter Piper” classic- for the new ego slayer. “Why do you think that you are all thaaaat, you ain’t ,” Del sings in the chorus. “Bubble Pop’s” lyrical content picks up where the pierced poet left off on the jaded “Fragments” (Wu Tang Meets Indie Culture,” 2005).
Del last graced the mainstream in 2001 as a voice for the popular animated crew Gorillaz. However, his last solo album (‘Both Sides of the Brain’) dropped eight years ago; Elektra Records, now an arm of Atlantic Music Group, released ‘Best of Del Tha Funky Homosapien: The Elektra Years’ in 2004. Two bonus tracks, "Drop It Lower" and "Full Throttle,” are included only on the digital release of ‘Eleventh Hour.’
