The D.E.Y. Increases Momentum Via MTV & EW Ranks
Saturday, January 12, 2008 By: Michael Ivey
Epic’s The D.E.Y. is enjoying co-signs from two of the most influential media outlets, as MTV names the group a top “Discover & Download” act, and Entertainment Weekly tags it “Top 10 For 2008.” The Violator managed Nuyorican “hip-pop” crew is featured on Sean Kingston’s latest, “Nothin,” which is being serviced to radio and video outlets.
The D.E.Y., comprised of Puerto Rican vocalist Yeyo, Nicaraguan emcee Divine (former pen for Afro-Cuban band Yerba Buena) and Bronx bred songstress Élan Luz Rivera, was born in 2005; the trio reportedly ripped down stages at Socialista (July 17, 2007) and the New York International Latino Film Festival at the China Club (July 24th) to cement it’s eclectic union.
Epic Records plans to release the group’s Latin/pop/urban fusion debut, “The D.E.Y. Has Come,’ this April. Looking back at yet another down year for compact discs, the label and Violator Management has put the group’s digital promo campaign in overdrive.
Rhapsody.com, MTV.com, and it’s online satellites, feature free video/audio downloads and interviews with ‘The D.E.Y.’ Timbaland, JR Rotem (Sean Kingston, Rihanna) and Norwegian songwriting/production team Stargate (Ne-Yo, Beyonce) will produce on ‘The D.E.Y. Has Come.’ For more information visit www.thedey.com
