U-God Files $170,000 Suit Against Wu Music
Monday, January 14, 2008 By: Michael Ivey
Bassy voiced U-God, AKA Lamont Hawkins, seeks $170,000 from his label/crew, Universal Music licensed company Wu Music, for breach of contract.
Hawkins claims that starting in March 2007 he was stiffed after agreeing to do a tour, album and signing a European record contract. The man known for energetic randomness on the mic actually left Wu Tang Clan in 2004 reportedly due to a conflict with group leader The RZA.
Def Jam/Wu-Tang artist Ghostface late last year voiced his displeasure concerning The RZA and others’ corporate leadership of the band.
Hawkins, featured on Wu-Tang’s latest posse LP ‘8 Diagrams,’ demands a jury trial, despite the fact that he is on tour with the band. Wu Tang Clan is set January 17 to perform at the Hammerstein Ballroom in it’s native New York.
