Twista Squares Up with Teammates End of First Quarter
Wednesday, January 16, 2008 By: Michael Ivey
Windy city motor mouth Twista wants to wait until things warm up to March 18 debut the first group on his Get Money Gang (GMG) label, The Speedknot Mobstaz.
Koch Records and GMG are responsible for familiarizing hip hop with members Liffy Stokes and Mayz via ‘Twista Presents The Speedknot Mobstaz - Mobstability II: Nation Bizness,’ the sequel to ‘Mobstability’ (1998). Fellow Chicagoans Liffy and Mayz have supported and toured with Twista since his 1997 Atlantic Records debut ‘Adrenaline Rush.’ Now in 2008 Cook County (AKA Crook County) can brag that it birthed a bona fide industry voice.
“The album is the streets just like the first one was,” says Mayz. “We don’t have to create a fake image; we just have to let our soul speak to the people.” ‘Mobstability II…’ features Twista, rap power broker Jim Jones and production by Chicago producer Cuzzo and China White Productions.
The Speedknot Mobstaz in 1998 entered the game and experienced relative success-‘Mobstability’ sold about 700,000 units (certified gold by the RIAA) and the single “In Your World” made the Dr. Doolittle soundtrack-however, Twista’s ten year anniversary LP ‘Adrenaline Rush 2007’ missed by a lot and he faces an uphill battle trying to recapture that ‘Kamikaze’ (certified Platinum, 2004) magic. “Money To Blow,” the first single from ‘Mobstability II…,’ will reach urban radio in the coming weeks.
