The Roots’ Rahzel Finishes Up Third LP

Wednesday, January 16, 2008
By: Kenny Rodriguez

RahzelRahzel, best known as the beat-boxer for the Roots, is finishing up his upcoming album, as a sequel to his previous 2004 LP, “Greatest Knockouts.”

The album, titled “Greatest Knockouts: The Album, Vol. 2,” will hit stores in the summer on Ipeac Records.

“It’s still hip-hop,” Rahzel recently told Billboard magazine.

“It’s like the music I grew up on, the music that made all of these things that are present now in existence. So I’m continuing that with raw beats, raw rhymes, beat-boxing, rhyming. The whole nine.”

“I don’t equate myself to what's going on right now. I can’t compare myself to Hurricane Chris or Soulja Boy, because it doesn’t make sense. I need to compare myself to a Kanye West, or a Jay-Z, or a Lupe Fiasco, not the music that a 12-year-old listens to.”

Aside from the album, Rahzel also has his hand in acting, as well as voiceover work for movie trailers, commercials, and videogames.

Rahzel is also working on a beat-boxing documentary, “Art of Noise,” expected to drop this summer.

If you listen to kanye's albums, u can see it's well crafted, there is a real concept, he's not only about hits, would u release "we major" on late registration as a single?people buy more albums of kanye or jay-z than soulja boy, who sells a lot of singles but less albums, don't know if im clear lol

^^^^but who sells more ringtones haha? well put, i think it's refreshing when artists care more about making their music the way they want to instead of catering to the pop radio masses. Although, at the same, if making radio friendly music to sell more records or whatever is what a person wants to do, they are free to do that (i just won't be listening/buying)

Lmao!!! ain't that the truth. Half these lil mutha fckaz comin into the game won't last. 10 years from now ppl will be like "soulja who?" but jayz, kanye, busta, dre, snoop, etc....they all changed hip hop history. Soulja boy and others like him are just a fad and they will be soon forgotten. The artists that make real music will go down in history. People are still gonna know who they are 20 years from now.
