The Roots’ Rahzel Finishes Up Third LP
Wednesday, January 16, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Rahzel, best known as the beat-boxer for the Roots, is finishing up his upcoming album, as a sequel to his previous 2004 LP, “Greatest Knockouts.”
The album, titled “Greatest Knockouts: The Album, Vol. 2,” will hit stores in the summer on Ipeac Records.
“It’s still hip-hop,” Rahzel recently told Billboard magazine.
“It’s like the music I grew up on, the music that made all of these things that are present now in existence. So I’m continuing that with raw beats, raw rhymes, beat-boxing, rhyming. The whole nine.”
“I don’t equate myself to what's going on right now. I can’t compare myself to Hurricane Chris or Soulja Boy, because it doesn’t make sense. I need to compare myself to a Kanye West, or a Jay-Z, or a Lupe Fiasco, not the music that a 12-year-old listens to.”
Aside from the album, Rahzel also has his hand in acting, as well as voiceover work for movie trailers, commercials, and videogames.
Rahzel is also working on a beat-boxing documentary, “Art of Noise,” expected to drop this summer.
