Ying Yang Twins On ‘Dr. Phil’ Over Saggy Pants
Monday, January 28, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
The Ying Yang Twins are a few of the guests invited to the Dr. Phil Show to debate the growing controversy over the sagging pants trend among hip-hop fans.
The Atlanta rap duo along with Rev. Al Sharpton, Texas politician Dwaine Caraway, and the Hip-Hop Government organization hope to address public concerns, as several cities are considering a ban on wearing saggy jeans.
“Too often, when members of the hip hop community are in the media, it’s for something negative,” said Chris Williams, co-founder of the Hip-Hop Government – which first launched its “Pull ‘Em Up” campaign in 2007.
Williams believes that the trend is often misinterpreted by people outside of urban culture, and young people seeking jobs may be overlooked due to stereotypes.
“It feels good to know that we are being invited because we are recognized for our positive contributions to the community,” Williams said.
The Dr. Phil episode is scheduled to air today, Jan. 28.
