KRS-One, Others Record New Anti-Violence Track
Tuesday, February 19, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
It’s been almost 20 years since KRS-One recorded “Self-Destruction” with some of hip-hop’s biggest names, but the Bronx rapper is working on re-launching the effort with today’s artists.
Earlier this month, over 50 rappers arrived in Los Angeles to record audio and video for an upcoming “Stop The Violence” project – including the Game, Chamillionaire, Nelly, David Banner, Planet Asia, and Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated Peoples.
KRS has confirmed that there will be future contributions by hip-hop heavyweights 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Fat Joe, Cassidy, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, and Talib Kweli.
The project will consist of songs and video clips to promote peace and dispel the negative stereotypes associated with hip-hop music.
Stop The Violence, the phrase and movement, was first introduced by KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions with their 1989 song, “Self-Destruction.”
The track was recorded following the murder of BDP member Scott La Rock, and featured an all-star cast including Kool Moe Dee, Heavy D, Doug E. Fresh, Public Enemy, Stetsasonic, and several others.
