New Details about 2Pac’s Shooting In 1994
Monday, March 17, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
New evidence has emerged about Tupac Shakur’s ambush in 1994, an incident which left the hip-hop superstar with five gunshot wounds in New York City, before his murder two years later.
According to an investigative reporter, former rival Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs knew of the ambush beforehand, and several associates from Bad Boy Records may have helped orchestrate the attack.
Los Angeles Times writer Chuck Philips released an article today claiming that Combs, previously known as Puff Daddy, was notified of the incident in advance – a claim which 2Pac insinuated in several interviews before his death in 1996.
According to Philips, other possible key figures include Jimmy “Henchman” Rosemond and Jacques “Haitian Jack” Agnant, both of whom were mentioned by name on Tupac’s 1996 song, “Against All Odds.”
Philips also writes that this incident began a chain of events which led to the murders of both 2Pac and the Notorious B.I.G. years later.
“Tupac’s shooting at the Quad [Recording Studio] was really a catalyst for everything that happened afterwards, including his own death and including the death of Biggie,” said Phillips, who based much of his story on FBI records and witness accounts.
“It started the whole thing off, and if you lay it out in a timeline which I do, you can just see; it’s obvious and kind of sad for two guys to be this talented.”
“I don’t believe that Biggie and Puffy set Tupac up [to be shot]," Philips added.
“According to these people I have interviewed, and according to these documents, they knew about it. But they didn’t know they were going to get shot. They knew he was going to get beat up. Then it kind of went haywire when it all happened.”
Philips’ article is published online at http://www.latimes.com/tupac, and it will be followed by a live chat scheduled for Tuesday.
Philips, a 1999 Pulitzer Prize winner, has written extensively on the music industry, including exposes on radio payola and charity scams.
