Eminem & DJ Premier Build “Keys…”

Apparently learning at the foot of a musical avant-garde like Dr. Dre hasn’t spoiled consummate lyricist Eminem. Shady/Aftermath’s golden child enlists 90’s hip hop sound-shaper DJ Premier of Gangstarr to produce “Keys To The City,” a track on Eminem’s highly anticipated new album. “Man…Eminem is back,” says Premo in a recent online interview. “He attacked the track with a new style, just fucking ridiculous, kind of like how he came with ‘The Way I Am’ but even more lyrical like the old Eminem.”
According to Premo, the producer behind acclaimed favorites by Nas, Jay-Z and a host of other lauded artists, “Keys…” is a song Eminem produced but didn’t like. “(I told him) as long as I can strip it clean and do what I do with your vocals it will be dope,” says Premo. “Keys…” reportedly will be leaked as a street single for Eminem’s forthcoming album.
Eminem’s last studio LP, ‘Encore,’ was the first of four not to win a Grammy for Best Rap Album. The controversial Detroit bred emcee is also working on a memoir, entitled ‘The Way I Am’, that’s reportedly set for a Fall 2008 release. Eminem in 2006 released a compilation called ‘The Re-Up,’ featuring little known Shady and Aftermath acts like Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater and Cashis. The album’s lead single, “You Don’t Know,” featured 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks and peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
