Busta Rhymes Gets Probation For Four Court Cases
Thursday, March 20, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Busta Rhymes received three years’ probation yesterday as he went up against four court cases in New York, including assaulting two men and driving under the influence.
Rhymes, born Trevor Smith, was sentenced for attacking his former driver and a fan in separate incidents going as far back as 2005.
The 35-year-old rapper was also ordered to perform 10 days of community service, pay a $1,250 fine, pay additional court costs, and to enroll in a drunk-driving program.
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Larry Stephen warned Busta to stay out of trouble while on probation, telling him: “If you mess up, you’re going to jail. I’ve given you a chance.”
“I couldn't feel better, and this couldn’t have happened at a better time,” Busta said after his sentencing.
“I thank the judge for giving me a chance, and I thank everybody for being supportive.”
According to his lawyer, Busta has already paid most of the fines, and he is already scheduling to begin his community service.
