Remy Ma Convicted, Papoose Plans Wedding
Monday, March 31, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
Bronx rapper Remy Ma cried as she left a courtroom on Thursday, after being convicted for shooting a woman outside a Manhattan nightclub last year.
Remy Ma, born Remy Smith, was found guilty of shooting a friend whom she suspected of stealing $3,000 – although she claims it was an accident.
According to police, Remy “took an illegal .45-caliber automatic and loaded it with hollow-point bullets,” then used both hands to cock the weapon.
Shots were fired as the two women struggled over a purse.
“She took every step you had to take to shoot somebody,” said assistant district attorney Michael McIntosh.
She faces up to 25 years in prison for assault, weapon possession, as well as attempted coercion, after several of her associates allegedly beat up a witness’ boyfriend in a Bronx nightclub weeks later.
A judge has denied her bail request, as she awaits her sentence on April 23.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn rapper Papoose has reacted to the conviction, and has confirmed rumors that he and Remy Ma are indeed a couple – even admitting that the two are planning to get married next month.
“We always wanted to keep our personal lives personal,” Papoose told MTV News in an e-mail, “so that’s why we never went public with our relationship.”
“Right now, I just feel like she gotta live through me. Yes, we were scheduled to be married on a yacht [on] April 27th. But due to circumstances beyond our control, we are now making arrangements to be married in prison.”
“All her supporters who feel Remy had an influence on their life should write a short letter to the judge asking for the shortest sentence possible. Send it to LettersForRemy@gmail.com.”
