T.I. Pleads Guilty to Federal Weapons Charges
Monday, March 31, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
T.I. has pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges – and as the Atlanta rapper waits an entire year for his jail sentence, he is expected to complete at least 1,000 hours of community service.
T.I., born Clifford Harris, was told on Thursday that he must complete at least 1,000 hours of community service, which includes talking to youth groups about the dangers of guns, drugs, and gang activity.
Harris, 27, pled guilty to several counts of gun possession, stemming from his arrest in October 2007 for allegedly trying to buy unregistered machine guns and silencers.
The platinum-selling artist was arrested on Oct. 13, just blocks away from the BET Hip-Hop Awards show in Atlanta where he was scheduled to perform later that day.
T.I., who initially pleaded not guilty, originally faced a maximum of 10 years in prison and an additional $250,000 fine for each count.
