Mos Def Is Chuck Berry in Chess Film

Downtown Records artist Mos Def is cast as renowned rock n’ roll musician Chuck Berry in the upcoming Sony BMG film ‘Cadillac Records,’ about storied label Chess Records. ‘Cadillac…,’ is being shot in New Jersey and features a talented ensemble, including Beyonce, as singer Etta James, Cedric the Entertainer (Willie Dixon), Gabrielle Union (Geneva Wade), Jeffrey Wright (Muddy Waters), and Adrien Brody (Chess co-founder Leonard Chess).
Mos Def, a champion of human rights and artistic independence in the urban realm, is fresh off ‘Be Kind Rewind,’ with comedian Jack Black. Mos Def has acted in films such as '16 Blocks,' 'Talladega Nights,' ‘Something The Lord Made,’ ‘Monster’s Ball,’ ‘Bamboozled,’ and 'Dave Chappelle's Block Party.'
The rock influenced emcee last year left Geffen/Interscope, his distribution house of nine years, for Warner Bros. label Downtown, home of Gnarls Barkley, Kid Sister and Santogold. Downtown is distributed by Warner Music’s Alternative Distribution Alliance (ADA), touts a joint venture deal with Atlantic Records and has offices in New York and Los Angeles.
