Wednesday, April 30, 2008 By: Mike Ivey Jr.
Seminal producer Pete Rock May 13 follows up the winter release of his latest album ‘NY’s Finest’ with an instrumental version that includes two bonus beats.
“Pete Rock, he was the man; to me he still is the man,” says acclaimed musician, ASCAP songwriter of the year, Timbaland. In anticipation of the May 13 release date of ‘NY’s Finest’ instrumentals Nature Sounds offers free downloads of beats for “914”, “PJs”, “We Roll”, and “Till I Retire” at http://www.justvinyl.com/naturesoundsassets/peterock/Music/instrumentals/.
Pete Rock is best known for his high impact, soul influenced joint albums with rapper CL Smooth in the early nineties. Over the last ten years Pete has independently furthered his brand via the ‘Soul Survivor’ series and ‘Petestrumentals’ (2001). He has also helped ignite The UN, a Long Island based outfit that includes former Flipmode Squad member Roc Marciano. The late J Dilla and 9th Wonder are among Pete’s most notable hip hop heirs who have steadily incorporated soul samples into their beats.
