Remy MaRemy Ma was sentenced to eight years in prison yesterday for the shooting of a woman outside a Manhattan nightclub last year.

The Bronx rapper, born Remy Smith, was arrested in July 2007 for the shooting of Makeda Barnes-Joseph over $2,000 that went missing from her purse.

According to police, Smith fired two .45-caliber bullets into her abdomen and then fled the scene.

Smith, 26, asked the judge for leniency yesterday for the sake of her eight-year-old son, adding that she grew up “surrounded by failure, violence and poverty,” but “made something out of nothing.”

State Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller said she recognized that Smith had a difficult childhood, but noted that the victim had nearly died and will never be the same physically.

After the sentencing, Papoose – a fellow rapper and Smith’s fiancée – began screaming in the hallway of the courtroom, yelling to the victim: “All you want is money!”

As court officers escorted him outside, he began to shout: “Lock me up! Lock me up!”

The couple had planned on marrying last weekend at the Rikers Island jail, where Smith was being held.

According to officials, the wedding was called off after Papoose showed up with a handcuff key in an apparent attempt to free Remy Ma.

Papoose, born Shamele Mackie, has not been charged.

Smith initially faced up to 25 years in prison for assault, weapon possession, and attempted coercion.
