50 Cent In Talks Over $300M Label Deal
Monday, May 19, 2008 By: Kenny Rodriguez
While 50 Cent is steadily moving up the Hollywood ladder, he hasn’t forgotten about his most notable hustle: the music industry.
According to reports, the G-Unit rapper is negotiating a $300 million label deal with News Corp , one of the world’s largest media companies.
As 50 Cent’s contract with Interscope Records comes to an end next year, he plans on launching a new venture which would include publishing rights for music, books, and concerts.
The partnership will also reportedly launch a MySpace-based label, with links to ThisIs50.com and the entire G-Unit roster.
Unnamed sources say the deal is expected to be finalized sometime in 2009.
Founded by mogul Rupert Murdoch, News Corp is a $28 billion conglomerate which oversees an array of media outlets – including 20th Century Fox films, HarperCollins books, and the Wall Street Journal.
Meanwhile, 50 – born Curtis Jackson – is currently working on upcoming films “Righteous Kill” (co-starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro) and “Streets of Blood” (starring Val Kilmer).
“Righteous Kill” hits theaters on Sept. 12, while production for “Streets of Blood” began earlier this month.
