Common Selects Lead Single for ‘Invincible Summer’
Wednesday, May 28, 2008 By: Mike Ivey Jr.
Emcee/Actor Common and Geffen Records reportedly like the up-tempo “Universal Mind Control (U.M.C.)” as a first-single for Common’s eighth LP ‘Invincible Summer,’ due in July.
"This is the type of music I felt was missing from my body of work," says Common about the Neptunes produced song that features Pharrell Williams in its chorus. "I created this music for the summertime. It's about feeling good.”
‘Invincible Summer’ is chiefly produced by The Neptunes (N.E.R.D., Jay-Z, N.O.R.E.) and Outkast producer Mr. DJ. Kanye West, who supplied soundscapes for Common’s last two critical and commercial hits, ‘Be’ and last year’s ‘Finding Forever,’ is not featured on ‘Invincible Summer.’
Common appears in the films ‘American Gangster’ and ‘Street Kings,’ with Forest Whitaker and Keanu Reeves.
